Amber health heat alert and changes to waste and recycling collection times
27/06/2025
An amber heat health alert has been issued, active from 12 noon today until 6 PM on Tuesday 1st July with temperatures expected to exceed 30 degrees on Monday.
Due to the anticipated hot weather and our commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our collection crews, all waste and recycling collections on Monday 30th June will commence earlier, from 6:00am;collections start at 7am in the South and 6.30am in the North, but residents are advised in both areas to leave their bins out from 6.30am. This proactive measure is being implemented to reduce the risk of heat exhaustion for our teams during the hottest parts of the day.
To give residents as much notice as possible, our website will be updated today with this information, advising them to please leave their bins out the night before (Sunday evening) to ensure they receive a collection. We will not be able to return if a bin is missed because it is not out, even if this is before the resident’s usual collection time. We will also be notifying the Parish Councils and updating our social media channels.
We will continue to monitor temperatures throughout the summer months and communicate any changes to the service to you and our residents as soon as any impact is reported.
